Client: The Saplings School Location: Kilwarden, Co Kildare Project: Bespoke School Size: 610 sq metres Project Timeframe: 14 weeks Architect: John P. Delaney & Associates Requirement: In 2000, a group of parents in the North Kildare/West Dublin areas came together to establish an organised campaign to pressurise the Government to provide children with special needs, an appropriate school facility.

The goal was to establish a child centred service for the local population, based on early intervention which is universally acknowledged to be essential in improving the outcome for children with Autism. After much arduous campaigning, a green field site was secured for their new school and the search began to find the perfect supplier.

Solution:

RoanKabin won the contract & the new Sapling School was built in less than 14 weeks. The new school provides purpose-designed facilities to cater specifically for children with Autism, including a reception, classrooms, resource rooms, dining & toilet facilities. The internal fit-out included mechanical & electrical, telephone & data systems, suspended ceilings, decoration, floor covering, fire & intruder alarms.

In addition to building the school, the contract included all civil works including foundations, landscaping, new water & waste treatment facilities and the provision of parking spaces for 25 cars.
